I have three distinct positions with the BC Ministry of Agriculture, the Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative, and the University of British Columbia, which means that my professional practice involves health in domestic animals, wildlife, and humans.

Leader for Veterinary Science and Diagnostics

Animal Health Centre, BC Ministry of Agriculture

The Animal Health Centre (AHC) is the leading accredited, full-service veterinary diagnostic laboratory in Western Canada. Its mandate is to diagnose, monitor, control and prevent animal disease in BC. I am responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of animal health policy and programming for BC and for running the veterinary diagnostic section of the laboratory and for managing a team of 13 people (8 pathologists, 5 technical staff). My position also has a significant clinical service component focused on the diagnosis of disease in a wide range of domestic and wild animal species.

Director, BC Node

Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative

The Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative (CWHC) is Canada’s National wildlife health surveillance network. I have been responsible for the development and management of the BC Node since its inception. In my capacity as director, I am responsible for developing and implementing a range of surveillance programs and research projects focused on diseases in free-ranging wildlife in BC.

Assistant Professor Partner-Track

School of Population and Public Health, University of British Columbia

As a partner-track faculty member I serve as the Leader for Veterinary Science and Diagnostics with the British Columbia Ministry of Agriculture and the BC Regional Director of the Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative while concurrently contributing to UBC in the areas of research, teaching, and service. My tripartite affiliation enriches my academic appointment by providing numerous opportunities for students, by allowing UBC to access new resources, by providing unique perspectives, and by facilitating the development of strategic partnerships between UBC and stakeholder organizations.
